TLDR: Troy Landry, born June 9, 1960 in Pierre Part, has been married to Bernita for more than 40 years and has three sons. He has also had two rough patches in public, a 2022 cancer surgery and a 2024 alligator tag citation. Checked October 27, 2026.
Troy Landry is the man most people picture when they think of Swamp People. He is a fisherman’s son who turned a bayou living into a reality hit that has run since 2010.
Season 17 aired in early 2026, so he is still very much in the frame.
A Fisherman’s Son From Pierre Part
HISTORY’s UK site gives Troy’s birth date as June 9, 1960, in Pierre Part, Louisiana. His parents were Duffy and Myrtle.
HISTORY says his father was a fisherman and seafood distributor. Troy has said he takes more alligator tags than any hunter in the state.
Cameras first followed him in 2008 for a planned documentary, and the series premiered in 2010. After the hit, HISTORY UK reports he signed a five-year contract.
Bernita and the Three Landry Sons
Troy has been married to Bernita for more than 40 years, according to HISTORY UK. Their household includes three sons, Brandon, Jacob and Chase.
Brandon is Bernita’s son from a previous relationship, and he has stayed out of the spotlight.
HISTORY’s Jacob Landry page calls him the eldest son in the cast and says he fishes with Don Brewer as a deckhand. TV Insider says he runs a separate boat with Little Willie, so even the show’s own coverage is split.
Chase appears on HISTORY’s cast page, which says he harvests sinker cypress logs. Wikipedia lists him as a former cast member, so we are leaving his status open.
Troy’s nephew Calum hunts with Don Brewer this season, which keeps the family tree stretching across more than one boat.
A Citation That Made Headlines in 2024
WBRZ reported that Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries cited Troy on September 19, 2024, on two counts of failing to tag an alligator. It happened near Morgan City on Lake Palourde, he was 65, and his boat was seized.
Another man was cited too, and Troy gave agents several explanations, according to the WBRZ report. A citation is not a conviction.
AOL’s coverage gave a January 2025 court date and a maximum penalty of 120 days and $950. No outlet we could find has reported how it ended.
Prostate Cancer Surgery in 2022
TV Insider reports that Troy was diagnosed with prostate cancer in June 2022 and had surgery. Its article also walks through the legal story.
Nothing we found suggests a recurrence, and we are not going to speculate about his health today.
Pickle Is Family in Spirit Only
Pickle Wheat is not a Landry, though the executive producer describes a father and daughter bond between her and Troy. He also mourned Junior Edwards publicly after the July 2025 death, per TV Insider.
Troy carried his hunting skills to Florida too, in Serpent Invasion, which ran from 2020 to 2025.
Where to Find Him Now
Troy was part of season 17, which aired January 7 to April 15, 2026. Everyone else on the boats is in our Swamp People cast guide.
