TLDR: Port Protection Alaska is no longer on National Geographic, and its former field producer Mickey Ramos now films the town for her YouTube channel Alaska-Vibes. It is independent, not an official continuation. Checked October 26, 2026.
Fans of Port Protection Alaska still get new stories from the town, but not from National Geographic. They come from a one-woman YouTube channel run by a producer who used to work on the show.
This page covers how the series ended, who Mickey Ramos is and what her channel does. Our Port Protection cast guide covers the residents themselves.
How the Series Ended
The show ran eight seasons by TheTVDB’s count, with a revival in 2020 as Life Below Zero: Port Protection. Ramos told Reality Blurred that the cast learned they were not renewed at a celebration dinner in Petersburg, where the executive producer announced it in a toast.
Ramos recalls that as October 2023. We have not found a National Geographic statement giving a date, so treat that as her memory.
Who Mickey Ramos Is
Ramos is a longtime reality producer whose credits include Dr. Pimple Popper, Floribama Shore and Solitary. Her first Alaska job was Slednecks for MTV in 2014.
She worked as a field producer on Port Protection from about 2018 to 2020. Gary Muehlberger mentored her on local logistics such as planning around the tides, and he died in March 2021, shortly after a new season was greenlit that she had helped pitch.
Why She Started Alaska-Vibes
Ramos built a Facebook group that grew to about 17,000 fans who wanted the show to continue. She launched the YouTube channel Alaska-Vibes on June 1, 2025, using that audience as a base.
How the Independent Production Works
She films, edits and produces the episodes herself. She tries to shoot each story in a single day, though fishing schedules sometimes force more than one visit.
Her episodes run longer than the television versions, with fewer quick cuts and a more conversational style that includes talking directly to subjects. She says she uses YouTube analytics to decide what to shoot.
Who Has Appeared
Reality Blurred names Sam Carlson, whom she interviewed in a recent episode, and a newer resident called Paul. It also lists past subjects Curly and Mary, who appear in our Curly Leach, David Squibb and Stuart Andrews guide and our Mary Miller profile.
We have not watched the full channel, so this list comes from one interview and may be incomplete.
What Alaska-Vibes Is Not
The channel is not on National Geographic or Disney+, and no one has described it as an authorized continuation of the series. It is an independently produced channel about the same community.
Ramos says the show has not been officially revived or renewed. She plans to keep going on YouTube, perhaps add sponsors and look at other platforms.
Where It Fits in the Franchise
Port Protection sat inside the Life Below Zero family, the larger television franchise Port Protection belonged to. In October 2025 Ramos said she planned trips to Kotzebue and Sitka for a crossover story, and we found no confirmation that they happened.
