Homestead Rescue Raney Ranch and the Family Build

TLDR: Homestead Rescue: Raney Ranch premiered on Discovery on October 6, 2020, with the Raney family rebuilding Marty Raney’s own 40-acre homestead in Alaska. A second season followed in May 2021, when a fire destroyed Marty and Mollee’s cabin. Checked October 23, 2026.

Marty Raney spent years rescuing other people’s failing homesteads on Homestead Rescue. In this spinoff, the family turned the cameras on their own land.

Here is what the series covers, season by season, and who helped build it. For the parent show, see our Homestead Rescue cast guide.

A Self-Rescue on 40 Acres

Discovery’s announcement said Marty planned to build a homestead meant to last across generations on his own 40 acres. The plan included a log cabin, a greenhouse, a garden, a workshop and cabins for his children.

The cabin site sat about 300 feet up a cliff, across a river on a part of the land that had been hard to reach. The family had roughly six weeks to finish before returning to rescue other homesteads.

Season 1 in October 2020

According to TheTVDB, the first season ran four Tuesdays from October 6 to October 27, 2020. The opener, “Living on the Edge,” has Marty risking a dangerous river crossing to move heavy gear.

In “One if by River, Two if by Air,” an aerial supply run hits rough weather and the family sets up a new sawmill for greenhouse lumber. “Raney Days Are A-Comin’” follows Marty racing to finish the log cabin walls while Matt takes the younger generation on a gold hunt.

The finale, “Do or Die,” has Marty struggling to finish the cliff-top cabin while Misty and her husband, Maciah, start their own cabin.

The Family on the Build

Marty works with his wife, Mollee, and his daughter Misty and her husband, Maciah. His son Matt leads the hunts, and the Discovery UK listing says Eric is a helicopter pilot who flies supply runs.

Season 2 and the Cabin Fire

The second season premiered on May 6, 2021. In “Risky Business,” a risky project leads to an injury that puts the homestead at stake.

In “Twist of Fate,” the family seals Misty’s cabin before the first storm while a cabin fire threatens their dream. “Fire on the Forty” then shows a fire destroying Marty and Mollee’s cabin as winter begins.

The family races to finish the clifftop cabin on the Upper 20 with heat, water and power.

Winter on the Upper 20

In “On Thin Ice,” Marty crosses a frozen river to bring heat to the new cabin while Misty and Maciah build a pump house. In “Count Your Blessings,” the icy road becomes impassable and Marty plans a risky haul of equipment up a 300-foot icy cliff.

The season closes with “Dead of Winter,” as a storm arrives before projects are finished. Discovery’s gallery of the new cabin shows the replacement for Marty and Mollee on top of what the family calls the cliffs of insanity, with moose antlers hung inside.

Why the Episode Counts Differ

TheTVDB lists four episodes in season 1 and eight in season 2. Rotten Tomatoes numbers the second season differently and lists 13 episodes through June 2021, and Discovery UK shows one season of 12.
