Eula passed away in 2011 after complications that included pneumonia, with Stanis by her side. It took her five years to finish writing about the experience, but she eventually published The Last Night: A Caregiver’s Journey in 2016.

In 2023, Stanis publicly voiced support for former co-star John Amos after his own alleged elder abuse and financial exploitation became public.
That same crisis would tragically resurface again around Amos’s death the following year, giving her show of solidarity a much heavier weight in hindsight.
